Party!!!, Purposefully Creepy Mansion, Wednesday Evening

It was Halloween, and after a long four-year break, it finally meant that there was a party at the mansion again. There were Jack O'Lanterns outside lighting the way to the house, and bat cut-outs and balloons in the shape of ghosts and skulls all around the house, and creepy looking candy on the snack table.

And a bloody goblin in the fridge. This time, it had a name tag identifying it as April, because Mike was a sentimental fool.

There were also way too many kind of jello shots. And too many versions of Monster Mash on the Spotify playlist for this party, but at least Mike had made a sign with instructions on how to find the playlist and add songs to it.

Well. Tony had his charms.

"The wings are the best part," Tony admitted.

The real trick with Halloween was that you wanted to have a costume that was a little bit cute, a little bit sexy, but not too obvious or try-hard. She figured, though, that she couldn't go wrong with being a little tongue-in-cheek, and decking herself out in a ridiculous retro space-age costume.

If anything, she figured it could make a good conversation started on the laughable mid-century, Atomic-Age Earth's ideas of space and the future and its underlying themes of objectification and misogyny, from the realistic standpoint of a soon-to-be multi-galactic jello entrepreneur.

Or something like that.

Mike offered that a shrug. "He's apparently been hired to write for a town paper I didn't even know we had?"

Brooke frowned. "I think the school used to have a newspaper...?"

Yeah, she had nothing.

For all that Octavia hounded her brother about going out and meeting people, she wasn't actually that much better at it than he was. But she'd managed to show up here, so, might as well try, right?

And so, from one leather-clad woman to another, she nodded at Rosa's mask.

"What animal is that?"

So far, Eddie was the only other person Octavia had spotted who also didn't appear to be wearing a costume. And considering that she was finding out she still felt a certain amount of unease around masks and things of that sort, maybe that was why he got deemed okay to speak to.

Or it could've just been his proximity to where all the food was. Since she was poking at the jello shots, right now.

"Do you know what any of these actually are?"

She'd already had a few, but it was worth asking.

"Yeah, I have no idea," he said, shaking his head. "But he seems okay, and my last housemate was a squatter here when I bought the place, so I think this is probably a step up."

"Oh, man, look what the cat dragged in."

She was definitely getting a hug. Unless she didn't want one.

"Hey, you."

Éponine was not in a full costume, but she did have a pair of bunny ears on. That was something, right?

He... was totally going to assume she was in costume, though. So, there was that.

"Alcohol, sugar, and regret mostly," Eddie said, clutching the candy bowl close. "Really rather just have a normal beer, but... late to the party. Like, literally on my part."

Amaya had...reservations about this whole holiday and the costumes after last year's vampire debacle. It had been her first exposure to Halloween and Fandom's tendencies to change who you are, so she was cautious about the whole thing when she went to this party thing going on at the appropriately spooky mansion.

But on the other hand...she had made from scratch one of those proton packs from those movies from movie class...and she had a basic jumpsuit...so...

Why not? Might as well show off her handiwork, since she had no idea what she was going to use that thing for anyway, and it was much easier to move around with that on her back than it would be to be strapped into that other thing she'd made from that other movie.

After talking to Mike, Brooke had to make her way over. Also, Jello shots.

"Eddie? Hi, I'm Brooke. Mike's girlfriend."

You'd be seeing way too much of her.

That was a risk she knew she was taking by not dressing period-appropriately.

"Must be why I like them," she said, examining one of the ones shaped like a tiny green brain. She shrugged. "They taste better than beer, anyway." Not that she was very picky. Back on the ground, they'd just had some questionable moonshine.

Physically or emotionally? Because he was in a weird part of his life right now, just coming out of a serious relationship and into... another serious relationship with an alien goo.

"Hey," he said, offering the hand not clutching the candy dish. "Nice to meet you."

"Yes, Good," Kitty greeted him, laughing.

"Okay, that's fair. But beer doesn't make you sick like these," Eddie replied with a dopey little half grin. "It's the sugar in 'em that gets you."

Said the guy hoarding the chocolate.

Yeah, Octavia gave a pointed look at the candy bowl he was clutching, then looked back up with the universal expression of 'really?'

"I have low blood sugar." Yes. That was it.

"Okay," Octavia replied, and appeared faintly amused for a second. Must've been the booze part of the shots. "So are you new? I haven't seen you before."

"They're my favorite, too," Hardison admitted. "That and the gloves. I'm ready to stop crime, reach out to wayward youth, an' fix your plumbin' at the same time."

"I get to make fun of Steve an' keep my ears warm," Hardison bragged, grinning at Kitty and her costume. "You know it's a good costume when it's multifunctional."

There always was someone who wanted to chat it up at these things, wasn't there? Well, Rosa figured it could be worse.

"Panther," she answered simply, before looking the other woman over, with no small amount of approval. "You supposed to be anything in particular?"

"Just this week," he replied, offering a hand to shake. "Eddie. Eddie Brock."

Hell yes Verity wanted one. Her arms were wrapping right back around him. "I'm pretty sure it was something a bit weirder than a cat," she said, giving him a tight squeeze. "Hey you right back. Happy Halloween."

"Yeah, probably. But as long as he's good with certain things, great."

He knew which things.
