What was there to do when your sister had been murdered and your life hadn't been so great even before that?

Mike was really hoping being dragged out shopping for flatpack furniture and other useful items for the home was at least a partial answer to that, because that was what was happening today. It was about time because they needed assorted crap for the house, and really, Mike felt like he needed to be doing something to try and get Derek's mind off of things.

"So..." he said, looking at the list he'd tried to compile this morning. "We need stuff for the kitchen, and the bathroom, and some doggy things for Puppy Joe, and, uh. I think as far as actual furniture goes, we should look for a new couch."

[NFB. For he who is the grumpiest, oh yes he is!]

"Thanks." You know, for that hugely reassuring answer. "I'd hate to get fatally wounded in an Ikea. It's just not right, dude."

"Mmhmm." Mike looked at some of the other stuff. "So, knives, cake molds, what else?

"Dishes that aren't red party cups." Claaaasy.

"Right you are." Not as fun, though! "Can they still be red, though, or are we going more boring with the colors?"

"Black isn't boring." No, it was emo.

"... It's not exactly cheerful dinnerware, either."

Really, now.

"It's different." Classy even. "What about grey?"

[newroutines]

"I could maybe, maybe go for a combination of both," Mike hazarded. "'Cause on their own, I don't like them."

"...I could handle that." Gayest conversation ever, guys. Seruously now. "You can have color in the window treatments."

But weren't they the most adorable couple, though?

"I could deal with that. And I mean, I'm not looking to go all gaudy and shit or anything. But you gotta have color."

"Monochromatic is in." Yeah, clearly he didn't watch tv. "Maybe a lilac. Go well with grey."

C'MON, GUYS.

Mike made a face. "Ennnh." That was a descriptive sound. "I was thinking more something like orange? I mean, you know, more peach than safety vest, obviously."

Yeah.

Derek made a face right on back. "Too Florida."

He went there.

Mike did his best to look scandalized. He was only about half successful.

"Ohhh, you did not just say that!"

"Does this place look like Miami Beach?" HE DIDNT THINK SO.

"I wouldn't know," Mike shot back. "Tampa, baby! If you're gonna take shots at insulting me and my Florida heritage, at least get the town right!"

Not that he was actually from Tampa, either. Originally.

"Same thing." Derek was not a nice man. "We're not decorating the kitchen like a parrot."

"It wasn't gonna be a parrot orange!" Mike objected. "It was going to be tasteful. Jesus, man, have a little faith. Besides, someone needs to be keeping you from making everything look depressing and, like, all leather and crap."

[justlurkinghere]

"It's practical, not depressing."

Same thing.

Mike jabbed a finger in his general direction. "With you, that's the same goddamn thing and you know it. We're not getting everything in black leather, end of story."

"A leather couch would be better with the dog." And the Stiles.

"Okay, a leather couch is fine," Mike decided, after reconsidering. "Leather everything else, no. Trust me, I've been around enough leather in my life."

"I'm not planning to decorate the place like an S&M club." Just the basement!
