Party!!!, Purposefully Creepy Mansion, Wednesday Evening

It was Halloween, and after a long four-year break, it finally meant that there was a party at the mansion again. There were Jack O'Lanterns outside lighting the way to the house, and bat cut-outs and balloons in the shape of ghosts and skulls all around the house, and creepy looking candy on the snack table.

And a bloody goblin in the fridge. This time, it had a name tag identifying it as April, because Mike was a sentimental fool.

There were also way too many kind of jello shots. And too many versions of Monster Mash on the Spotify playlist for this party, but at least Mike had made a sign with instructions on how to find the playlist and add songs to it.

Mitsutada had just... leaned into his first inclination. He was wearing full samurai armor, including a helmet with a large, impressive crescent moon on the front.

Yes, he was dressed as Masamune Date.

"So this is... Halloween?" he remarked, to no one in particular.

"Not yet, but I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it," Clint said, toying with one of Kitty's wrappings. "Just think, next year at this time we'll get to pick out a baby-sized costume."

There were things about fatherhood that Clint was scared about, but he was also really excited deep down.

Karolina had come to this party with the intention of trying to maybe get to know some more people, and hey, here was someone she didn't remember seeing before!

"Hi," she said, with a little smile, as she came over. "I like your outfit." She was making no guesses at this point as to whether it was a costume or everyday wear.

At least it was a reasonable assumption to make. And she hadn't even made reference to being 'kom Sky Crew' when she'd introduced herself!

"It's green," she noted, holding the syringe up to the light for a closer look. "I don't know, I guess that counts as cool."

"Thank you," Karolina replied, with a sheepish little laugh and a look down at herself. "It's really different from how I usually dress. Makes me feel a little weird."

At that, Octavia took a better look at Rosa's outfit, her head slightly tilted. "It looks good."

From her own use of leather, the chest window was a lot impractical. But it was a good look, from other standpoints. And those ones seemed to be generally more important around here.

"Hard to go wrong with leather, I guess."

"Indeed it is," said the man dressed as a goddess, and carrying a small tray of various kinds of jello shots. "Are you new to the holiday?"

Around here, that was a very major possibility. Mike had been around far too long not to know that.

"Real armor or fake?" Octavia asked, with an appraising look. She'd been here long enough to know there was a difference.

And a few jello shots had been good for her willingness to start conversations.

And to be honest, he kind of felt naked without it.

Well, way to go and just break a gal's heart, Zack. Amaya had seen the sword he usually had, and now that was a project she could really sink her hammer into! And one to make her wish she'd made her forge a little bigger, as well as keep her busy for a good month at least.

But a sword was a sword, and she was happy to craft anything, really, but, zounds!

"Solid I can definitely do," she promised with a grin, "but I'll admit, I don't think I know what you mean by materia slots."

Rare, that, coming across a weaponry term she might not know, so she was instantly curious, curious enough to easily drive away any disappointment about working on obscenely large blades.

"Oh!" Zack blinked, and then reached into a pocket, smiling apologetically. "Sorry, I forget they're really just something we have at home."

He pulled out a small, faintly glowing sphere, and held it out to her.

"Back where I'm from, this stuff is what lets us use magic... so long as we slot it into our weapons and armor. This one is a healing spell. I have one for fire and lightning and things like that, too. I don't really need them around here, generally. The island is way too quiet for that. But having access to some can't hurt, either."

"I don't know if I'll be able to tell." She wasn't all that great at discerning one citrus from another quite yet, although she liked all of them. One of the effects of spending her first seventeen or so years depending on a space station's idea of a garden. "Guess there's only one way to find out."

And that was to stick her tongue out with her chin tilted slightly upwards, and empty the syringe. (And some other person would've done that and made it more suggestive, and another would've made it less so, but this was Octavia and so that kind of imagery wasn't really in her frame of reference, so.) And then to close her mouth and sort of thoughtfully swirl the jello around to figure out if it corresponded to her idea of lime or not.

Yeah, Octavia knew how that felt.

She made a small gesture at her own clothes. "Real." Wasn't full-on armor, but it was also a hell of a lot tougher than most people's day-to-day wear.

Honestly, it would be harder to find an outfit without leather for her.

And probably easier to have a conversation with nearly anyone else. Small talk wasn't exactly a...forte for Rosa, no.

Zack smiled a little over that in clear approval, yes.

"It's always nice to see someone wearing something functional around here," he decided. "You'd think there'd be more of it, considering."

On the odd occasion when it tried to kill everyone, you'd think more people would have armor in reserve.
