Party!!!, Purposefully Creepy Mansion, Wednesday Evening

It was Halloween, and after a long four-year break, it finally meant that there was a party at the mansion again. There were Jack O'Lanterns outside lighting the way to the house, and bat cut-outs and balloons in the shape of ghosts and skulls all around the house, and creepy looking candy on the snack table.

And a bloody goblin in the fridge. This time, it had a name tag identifying it as April, because Mike was a sentimental fool.

There were also way too many kind of jello shots. And too many versions of Monster Mash on the Spotify playlist for this party, but at least Mike had made a sign with instructions on how to find the playlist and add songs to it.

"Happy Halloween," Mike replied warmly, holding the squeeze for a moment longer before letting her go. "So, oh my God, what's up, Verity? It's been forever."

"I found a dragon!" Verity burbled up, still excited even months later. "I should say, I found a male dragon! We thought they were extinct and it turns out they're not!"

Sure finding what might be the last living male in existence didn't speak great things about a species' longevity, but that wasn't counting the dragon princesses' parthenogenesis, so...

"Under the streets of Baltimore," Verity said, practically bouncing on her heels. "In an old cave system that sorta connected to the sewer lines. He'd been sleeping there since before the city was built, literally on top of him."

"Wow, okay, that's..." Something he had to search for a word for, while he watched her (rightfully!) beam about it. "Totally weird and also totally awesome, holy shit."

"His name is William," Verity said, laughing. "He sounds like someone right out of Masterpiece Theater, which is very weird when looking at something the size of, y'know, a double-decker city bus."

Mike chuckled. "Your world is wild and weird," he said. "And I'm saying this as a long-time Fandom resident who just rented a room out to someone who came asking about it because of an ad in the paper I hadn't even placed yet."

"...The island even has a paper?" Verity asked, since she'd moved in sometime after it had become defunct. "So, you have a new roommate from an ad you didn't place in a paper that doesn't exist. That's just surreal."

Which they definitely didn't have. Or, hadn't had, for years.
