Party!!!, Purposefully Creepy Mansion, Wednesday Evening

It was Halloween, and after a long four-year break, it finally meant that there was a party at the mansion again. There were Jack O'Lanterns outside lighting the way to the house, and bat cut-outs and balloons in the shape of ghosts and skulls all around the house, and creepy looking candy on the snack table.

And a bloody goblin in the fridge. This time, it had a name tag identifying it as April, because Mike was a sentimental fool.

There were also way too many kind of jello shots. And too many versions of Monster Mash on the Spotify playlist for this party, but at least Mike had made a sign with instructions on how to find the playlist and add songs to it.

It was Verity. Verity was the one who'd been put out.

"Oh, the mice think him turning into a cat is wonderful," Verity groused. "He's enough himself that he's not a danger to them and so they don't have to be a danger right back and they see it as some kind of manifestation of his divinity. I'm pretty sure there are three new rites and celebrations from this little jaunt alone."

Okay, so sue him, the mice were freaking adorable. He could imagine what a celebration about Liam being a cat would be like, but he kind of wanted to see it.

"Not usually, but that's because they have to be a secret, back home," Verity said. "So either you're family, which means you're part of the pantheon, or you have no idea mice exist and we're busy trying to figure out how you got into our house and whether or not you'll be leaving it again."

She grinned, like she was joking. And she was!

...In that scenario had never come up.

"Yeah, secret identities are a bitch," Miguel agreed. "Hey, at least they have you looking out for them."

Sentient and scrappy or not, they were mice.

"I think Mom loves them more than at least one of her children," Verity said with a smile. "Considering there are only three of us, that's not great odds."
