It was once more Halloween, and the island had finally calmed the fuck down again.

Well, mostly. The Jack O'Lanterns outside in the yard lighting the way to the house occasionally laughed in a PG-rated creepy fashion, and bat cut-outs flew around the ceiling above the partygoers' heads, and the black cats printed on the sides of balloons flicked their tails back and forth and sometimes hissed at people when they went by.

And because it was tradition, there was a bloody goblin in the fridge, complete with a name tag identifying it as April. Only this time, whenever you opened the door to get something, it'd tell you whatever you were grabbing was actually poison...ously delicious!

(Shut up, it was made of plastic, its punning game wasn't the greatest.)

There were also once more lots of snacks, lots of drinks, and way too many kinds of jello shots. But fewer renditions of Monster Mash on the Spotify playlist for this party, this year! So far, anyway. Mike had a sign up againwith instructions on how to find the playlist and add songs to it, so that may not last all through the evening.

"That's not going to happen," Rey said, confident in that.

"You're not worried you're tempting fate, just saying that?"

"No. If I'd said that about pollen or a gremlin revolt or whatever, that'd be tempting fate. I just know this," she said.

"Uh huh. I'll just add that to my list of things you all tell me are only ever good on this island."

"Oh, I can give you a list of bad things if you ever want it," she said.

"Is it all made up of 'invasions'?"

Reystarted ticking them off on her fingers. "Pollen, gremlins, laundry strikes, the fact that multiple Skywalkers can assume I'm a relative because of different universes, weird things falling from the sky or pipes, awkward mornings after you weren't yourself all weekend...?"

Most of those he'd already been aware of, at least.

"Laundry strikes?"

"The machines give up, or the clothes give up, I can't remember but everyone's lost most of their clothes by the end of the week," she answered.

". . . I'm sorry, the clothes give up being clothes?"

"Objects decide to stop serving their purpose, either way," Rey sighed. "People end up wearing bedsheets..."

"Well now it just sounds like a frat party."

"I don't really know what that is," she said.

"It's a place where people get drunk and decide bed sheets are clothes. Also known as a 'toga party'."

"There's less drinking when it happens here," she said. "I'm sure we could change that."
