It was once more Halloween, and the island had finally calmed the fuck down again.

Well, mostly. The Jack O'Lanterns outside in the yard lighting the way to the house occasionally laughed in a PG-rated creepy fashion, and bat cut-outs flew around the ceiling above the partygoers' heads, and the black cats printed on the sides of balloons flicked their tails back and forth and sometimes hissed at people when they went by.

And because it was tradition, there was a bloody goblin in the fridge, complete with a name tag identifying it as April. Only this time, whenever you opened the door to get something, it'd tell you whatever you were grabbing was actually poison...ously delicious!

(Shut up, it was made of plastic, its punning game wasn't the greatest.)

There were also once more lots of snacks, lots of drinks, and way too many kinds of jello shots. But fewer renditions of Monster Mash on the Spotify playlist for this party, this year! So far, anyway. Mike had a sign up againwith instructions on how to find the playlist and add songs to it, so that may not last all through the evening.

Liam clearly needed a better pop culture education, because he was wandering over to Karolina with a question on his lips.

"Okay. Beau's obviously some sort of pirate," he said by way of greeting. "Does your costume go with hers, or...?"

At least he was asking someone with an extremely low likelihood of judging him for not already knowing?

"Yes!" Karolina enthused, with a grin. "We're both from ~~meta for~~ The Princess Bride! It's a movie." A beat. "A really good one, which you should definitely see sometime."

"It sounds... vaguely familiar," Liam admitted. In the way that a lot of stuff did, when your frame of reference was actually someone else's memories. "I should see if Verity'd be willing to watch it with me." She almost certainly had seen it before, but maybe would be willing to do so again?

If Verity wasn't, Karolina would seriously consider revoking her 'good people' card. (Okay, not really. But a little bit?)

"I bet she is," she said. "And if she's not, Beau and I can probably throw a movie night together."

“Maybe... we could do that anyway?” Liam suggested. Hanging out with other couples was like, a thing people did, right?

Probably? Karolina's dating history had never really veered that way, for reasons of... well, all of her relationships having been pretty unconventional to begin with.

"Sure," she said easily. "It's a good movie, I can watch it whenever."

Liam's dating history was... well. He was engaged to the first person he'd ever dated. Which didn't give him a very good sample size but did mean he must be doing something right?

"I'm looking forward to it, then," he told her with a grin.
