newroutines | Party!, Purposefully Creepy Mansion, Thursday Evening

It was once more Halloween, and the island had finally calmed the fuck down again.

Well, mostly. The Jack O'Lanterns outside in the yard lighting the way to the house occasionally laughed in a PG-rated creepy fashion, and bat cut-outs flew around the ceiling above the partygoers' heads, and the black cats printed on the sides of balloons flicked their tails back and forth and sometimes hissed at people when they went by.

And because it was tradition, there was a bloody goblin in the fridge, complete with a name tag identifying it as April. Only this time, whenever you opened the door to get something, it'd tell you whatever you were grabbing was actually poison...ously delicious!

(Shut up, it was made of plastic, its punning game wasn't the greatest.)

There were also once more lots of snacks, lots of drinks, and way too many kinds of jello shots. But fewer renditions of Monster Mash on the Spotify playlist for this party, this year! So far, anyway. Mike had a sign up againwith instructions on how to find the playlist and add songs to it, so that may not last all through the evening.

Liam and his ridiculous v-neck made his way over to Octavia somewhere in the middle of the evening. "You doing okay?"

She seemed to be making... quick work of those shots, yes.

Hey, now! She was also making steady progress on trying all the snacks, too.

"I'm fine," Octavia said, like she would have at any point of the evening. "What are you wearing?"

... That, she may have kept to herself earlier on. It wasn't too far from her usual mildness, but there was something a touch more exaggerated about the way she raised her eyebrows, something a little more animated about her tone.

Yeah, Liam pretty much expected the 'I'm fine', to be honest. But given that statement was paired with a lot of alcohol, he had his doubts as to its veracity. Not that he was going to press, at least, not now.

"Tango dancer costume," he said instead, tips of his ears turning red. Not that you could really tell under all that pale zombie makeup.

"Zombie tango dancer costume," he clarified, after a beat.

Octavia snorted. "Is that a thing?"

“If it wasn’t before, it is now,“ Liam said with a shrug and a hint of a fond smile.

"It suits you," Octavia decided, pretty light with her tone when it came to how she usually sounded. "Still weird, though."

Yeah, don’t think he hadn’t noticed that peculiar lightness. Hence the raised eyebrow as he asked “The zombie part, or the...?” he pulled at the edge of that plunging neckline.

"Both."

It was entirely possible she was screwing with him. Just a little bit.

Well, he’d come back from the dead, uh. A few times, if you counted the times where his heart had stopped briefly. Once for certain, when he’d been non corporeal for an entire year. Did that make him technically undead?

“Seriously?” he squinted at her.

Octavia shrugged her shoulders, all nonchalant. Which really was kind of a clue in itself.

"Sure."

“Are you messing with me?” Liam demanded.

The noise she made wasn't entirely a snicker. But it also wasn't very far off, considering.

"Yes."

“Hey!” he protested, pouting exaggeratedly at her. “That’s just mean,” he huffed.

"Sorry?" Octavia replied, but she clearly wasn't. The crinkles by her eyes said so.

“Hmph,” Liam scowled at her, but there was no real heat behind it. “I don’t think you are,” he said loftily.

"Probably not."

She looked downright merry about it, though, so maybe he wouldn't mind as much?

She did look pretty cheerful, which was unusual enough in and of itself that yeah, Liam didn't particularly mind.

"M'only letting you get away with this 'cause I like you," he declared, crossing his arms over that mostly-bare chest of his.
