Party!, Purposefully Creepy Mansion, Thursday Evening

It was once more Halloween, and the island had finally calmed the fuck down again.

Well, mostly. The Jack O'Lanterns outside in the yard lighting the way to the house occasionally laughed in a PG-rated creepy fashion, and bat cut-outs flew around the ceiling above the partygoers' heads, and the black cats printed on the sides of balloons flicked their tails back and forth and sometimes hissed at people when they went by.

And because it was tradition, there was a bloody goblin in the fridge, complete with a name tag identifying it as April. Only this time, whenever you opened the door to get something, it'd tell you whatever you were grabbing was actually poison...ously delicious!

(Shut up, it was made of plastic, its punning game wasn't the greatest.)

There were also once more lots of snacks, lots of drinks, and way too many kinds of jello shots. But fewer renditions of Monster Mash on the Spotify playlist for this party, this year! So far, anyway. Mike had a sign up againwith instructions on how to find the playlist and add songs to it, so that may not last all through the evening.

Octavia wasn't wearing a costume, but Mike had shoved a tiny ringmaster's top hat on a headband at her upon her arrival, and for whatever reason, she hadn't fought him on it.

She'd also made an almost immediate beeline for the food and drink tables. For the snacks, sure, but also to pretty much inhale a couple of the shots right off the bat. This was going to be that kind of an evening, yes.

Octavia had had a fair few shots, yes, but still knew to sip the sake, rather than just knock it back and move on to the next thing.

But she was maybe a little bit more obvious about looking him over than she would often have been. "You look different."

Octavia's head tilted to the side a little more than her usual fraction, looking him over. "It's weird." On him, not in general. "But I think I like it."

She liked his hair like this. She was tipsy enough to think it, but not to say it, apparently.

"A modern day human out on the town ♥," Shunsui offered, very much wishing he'd thought to add a hat because that seemed to be a great moment to tip one, but he figured not including a hat worked better in it being distinctly different from his usual get-up. "It seemed a bit more interesting than my other option of a sheet with eyeholes cut into it &hearts."

Because, yeah. He definitely thought that one would be pretty good, too.

"Is that the one that's supposed to be a ghost?" Octavia asked, because it wasn't as obvious a reference to someone with her upbringing, but she'd at least picked it up over the past couple of years. "I think I like this better."

"There's not really a lot to understand," Octavia replied, after the tiniest nod of greeting. "It's alcohol, but mixed with sugar and regret."

Octavia picked up one of the shots with the candy eyeballs in them, and considered it. "The sugar and the alcohol, mostly," she drawled. "Have too many, you'll feel terrible in the morning."

She knew this from experience.

"Hmm," Rey said, picking up one of the glowing ones and frowning at it. "How do you even do these? I never wanted to actually ask Summer and be insulting."

"The cups are plastic," Octavia replied, giving the one in her hand a demonstrative squeeze. "It should come out if you squeeze the cup when you tilt it into your mouth. Then you just kind of... break it up in there. It sort of half-melts?"

She wasn't very good at explaining things like these, because mostly she just went by feel, herself.

Liam and his ridiculous v-neck made his way over to Octavia somewhere in the middle of the evening. "You doing okay?"

She seemed to be making... quick work of those shots, yes.

Hey, now! She was also making steady progress on trying all the snacks, too.

"I'm fine," Octavia said, like she would have at any point of the evening. "What are you wearing?"

... That, she may have kept to herself earlier on. It wasn't too far from her usual mildness, but there was something a touch more exaggerated about the way she raised her eyebrows, something a little more animated about her tone.

Yeah, Liam pretty much expected the 'I'm fine', to be honest. But given that statement was paired with a lot of alcohol, he had his doubts as to its veracity. Not that he was going to press, at least, not now.

"Tango dancer costume," he said instead, tips of his ears turning red. Not that you could really tell under all that pale zombie makeup.

"Zombie tango dancer costume," he clarified, after a beat.

She gestured in Mike's general direction.

(The fact that her hair wasn't currently in braids was her own doing, though. But also unrelated to the party.)
