'STACHE BASH, Dapper Mansion on Phoenix Way, Friday Evening

It was Friday evening and as had been promised by the posters earlier this week, that meant party time! The mansion was ready, and the mustaches were ready.

No really, there were theme-appropriate balloons.

All that was needed now were some people to have a good time.

Irene had lingered entirely too long by the available mustaches before selecting a fairly elegant little handlebar mustache on a stick to clutch by her face all night.

She did not glue things to her face, no. Particularly not things that could interfere with her lipstick.

"That... actually works for you," Mike informed her after a look. "My sexuality's all confused now."

"Oh, hooray. Welcome to the club," Irene told him, drawing the mustache away long enough to flash a smile at him. "Your bumper sticker ought to arrive in the mail any day now."

She glanced around, and added, "Did you do all this just because you wanted to grow one?" Because she wouldn't blame him.

"I wanted a party, and Derek said I couldn't grow a mustache," Mike told her truthfully. "I call this outcome a win-win."

"Derek was quite wrong," Irene told him unnecessarily. "I think you should make this a running thing -- throw a party every time Derek's wrong about something."

Seriously, she would go to all of those, just to taunt Derek. She was good like that.

"I don't know in any of our livers could take that," Mike replied, mostly joking. Even if he didn't see eye to eye with Derek on a lot of things. "I might have to save it for special occasions such as this right here."

"Now, was it exclusively a mustache, or facial hair entirely that he postulated you couldn't grow? Because it's coming in quite nicely. Are you going to keep it?" Irene asked, going onto her toes to examine him more closely. Don't mind the invasion of your personal space, there, Mike.

He never did. He even struck a little pose, because she needed a statue to examine.

"It was any facial hair at all," he said. "And I don't know what its fate will be yet. Might stick around for a while, might end up shaving it once everyone goes home. I'm not used to it."

"It suits you," Irene assured him after a moment, grinning at him. "Though you do sort of look like you might actually be Mike's Evil Twin."

Mike snickered. "Well, I assure, you I'm not," he said. "I'm wicked enough all by myself."

"Wow, you really went old-school mustache," Tamsin commented, once she caught sight of Irene.

Tamsin'd put in enough effort to pick the right shirt tonight. Mustaches? Eh.

"And you," Irene said, pointing with her mustache-on-a-stick, "are in violation of the theme, young lady."

Eh. She looked like a young lady. Whatever.

Upside of having an idiotically long lifespan coupled with the life cycle of a phoenix. Aww, yeah.

Tamsin rolled her eyes, got the mustache back out of her pocket, and slapped it back on her forehead. "I figure Mike is going to be drunk enough not to notice sooner or later," she said.

"Yes, but how will we taunt Derek without our mustaches?" Irene pointed out. "Because I hear that's the point of all this and I really, really do love annoying Derek."

"Oh, I'm waiting for Broody to show up so I can see his face," Tamsin had to clarify. "But the mustaches are kind of dumb." She pointed at her forehead. "Mine's rebelling."

"You have a migratory mustache," Irene declared. "Very rare. Also probably a good way to get Derek to freak out, if you keep it there. That boy hates fun more than anyone I've ever met."

"Hey, live and let live," Tamsin said. "Some people get off on brooding in corners and hating everything that has the gall to breathe, more power to them."

To be fair, she kinda hated most people too.

"Though he's hilarious when he's freaking out."

"Oh, he's hilarious when you try and break the brooding, too," Irene assured her. "I can't break shopkeeper-client confidentiality, naturally, but I can let you in on the totally unsurprising secret that Derek is hysterical when shopping for his personal life."

So much glaring. So much addressing his questions to a foot over her head.

Even Tamsin couldn't resist laughing at that one. "Too bad you didn't film that," she said, "You could've made a good few bucks on this island alone."
