Since apparently the island was going insane again, and Derek had managed to get back inside the house without breaking a window, it was going to be a quiet night indoors. Which meant using almost all of the couch to stretch out on if you were a giant wolf while making sad eyes at Mike until he turned on Netflix.
So majestic, this noble creature.
Really, the majesty was only rivaled by Mike's apparent skill at determining what the hell a giant wolf wanted when it was looking at him like that. Because it was pretty impressive, for a regular guy from Florida. But Derek was also probably going to have to deal with whatever Mike chose because A, it was too much of a guessing game otherwise, and B, Mike kind of flopped down into what little space there was left over on the couch.
And partially being used as a pillow by said roommate turned wolf. It wasn't his fault that Mike's lap was moderate comfortable and let him watch whatever terrible show was on.
And the show was truly terrible. What, like Mike was going to watch anything that could be considered non-terrible by any objective standards when he'd had a really long day and his roommate was a wolf? Hell no. He was all about just relaxing and vegging out. Which he was apparently excelling at, since after a while his hand settled on Derek-the-wolf's back. And, you know, he'd dated a chick with a huge dog once. So, when he felt fur under his hand, maybe petting was kind of an automatic reaction.
He did not (immediately, anyway) realize what he was doing.
And there had been enough people petting him since this started that it didn't even phase Derek. Much.
Okay, so he rumbled once, but allowed it. They must never speak of this.
